Release
xine-lib 1.2.5 -
This release works with libav10.
We now have an avformat demuxer plugin, which means new formats and new protocols – for example, proper RTSP support (avformat+rtsp://, rtsp+tcp:// and rtsp+http://). Native demuxer plugins are probed first, but can be overridden by configuration or by selecting the demuxer in the MRL – either postfix, i.e. #demux:avformat, or by using avformat+ as a protocol prefix.
We also have a avio (libavformat) input plugin, which allows for HTTPS, FTP, sftp, seekable HTTP streams (avio+http://). This can be overridden in config or by using avio+ as a protocol prefix.
We now handle HEVC/H.265, ADPCM G.726 and ATRAC3. H.265 is handled in MPEG-TS and, along with VP9, in Matroska. VP8 and VP9 decoding may be done by libvpx.
The Quicktime demuxer has seen some improvements: multiple user-selectable audio tracks, support for AC3, EAC3, Vorbis and PureVoice audio, support for ISO fragment media files. Broken files should be handled more safely.
The AC3 decoder now has bass downmix support; HDMV subtitle channel handling and some colour format conversion, RealVideo PTS and COOK audio problems are fixed.

Also, a possible hang due to display locking is fixed, and there are a few performance improvements.

2012-06-09:
Release
xine-lib 1.1.21 & 1.2.2, xine-ui 0.99.7 -
Three new releases on one day! Mostly bug fixes, but…
xine-lib 1.1 has basic BluRay support as well as better Matroska, DVB and MPEG-TS support, improved YUV handling, fixes for ffmpeg codecs, and it should be buildable on Windows. Also, several bug fixes, two of which would cause it to crash.
xine-lib 1.2 has that, a DVB fixup, more YUV conversion optimisation, support for FLAC in Matroska, and support for BMP(!).
xine-ui has quite a few changes: better M3U playlist handling, various UI fixes (including a deadlock fix and a crash fix), use of XScreenSaver, and two overflow bug fixes (which you'll probably want).
Download it from our download page.

Release
xine-lib 1.2.1 -
A new release. Mostly bug fixes; the VDPAU code has been rewritten somewhat, and the alternative VDPAU plugin is buildable (hopefully, most who noticed problems got the missing file from the repository or the packaged version in Debian experimental or unstable).
Please check the release notes for details & known problems.

Project news
HG repositories MIA again -
Debian have once more been having problems with Alioth. Consequently, our public repositories have been offline for a day or so.
As a result, we now have mirrors on Sourceforge of our primary repositories. While it is expected that these will be maintained, they probably won't always be fully up-to-date.

2012-01-01:
Release
xine-lib 1.2.0 -
A new version of xine-lib is available. Two releases in one day…! This has to be cause for celebration‼ Or something.
Significant features: VDPAU support, VDR support, following the XDG Base Directory Specification, reduced memory usage, and no internal copies of ffmpeg, libcdio or libvcd.
I can't be bothered with waffle, so go and read the release notes or download it and play with it. You'll need to recompile your front end to use this if you've previously been using 1.1 (not 1.1.90).
Please check the release notes for details & known problems.
Download it from our download page.

Release
xine-lib 1.1.20 -
A new version of xine-lib is available. (Okay, we know, somewhat overdue. You can stop cheering now.)
This release supports rv30, rv40, VP8 and (with new-enough ffmpeg) AAC LATM. It allows use of GraphicsMagick instead of ImageMagick, should work better with PulseAudio, contains various MinGW fixes (and a port to w64), and has various minor fixes and improvements, most notably for MPEG TS.
Please check the release notes for details & known problems.

hgweb's back, and the repository access speed is back to what it should be. It seems that the slowness was due to hgweb being missing…

2011-08-11:
Release
gxine 0.5.906 -
A new version of gxine is available. This release is mostly a maintenance release: mostly bug fixes, with a few new UI bits: gamma, sharpness and noise reduction controls may be available. The most significant of the bug fixes are regarding full-screen mode with multi-head setups: focus grabbing now isn't done at all, and the video area is correctly sized. (Both problems only showed up if gxine was built without Xinerama support.)
Download it from our download page.

HG repositories -
If anybody's wondering: the repositories are mostly fine now after the Alioth restructuring a few months ago. All that's presently missing is hgweb.
Those of us with write access should all be using hg.debian.org (not alioth.debian.org) and have dealt with the changed fingerprint by now.

Site news
#xine-vdpau -
#xine-vdpau (freenode) is no more. Use #xine (alternatively, on OFTC) instead.
It has been determined that, while it was the more active channel, a lot of its content was general xine-related chat, which is more on-topic in #xine, so we've decided that VDPAU no longer needs a separate channel. If you have a problem with this, send your comments to /dev/null ☺.

2010-03-06:
Release
xine-lib 1.1.18.1 -

2010-03-06:
Release
xine-ui 0.99.6 -
Well, this one's long overdue.
This release contains many fixes and tweaks, many of which you've probably already benefitted from anyway since we'd previously been advising anybody who had problems to use the development version (if they weren't already).
Yes, there may still be problems; any help which anybody can offer in fixing these would be good. We like patches. Patches are good.
Anyway, download, build and enjoy…
Please check the release notes for details & known problems.

2010-02-23:
Release
xine-lib 1.1.18 -
A new version of xine-lib is available. This release adds support for WMA Pro and basic support for Quicktime media links (much better support is present in the 1.2 branch) and has various fixes for 24-bit FLAC and LPCM, TTA, and AAC in Flash video; there's also one important fix for DXR3 users, allowing xine-lib to work with recent versions of the em8300 driver. It also has enhanced support for metadata (currently Ogg-only).
Building with internal ffmpeg works again. This is a deprecated option; we strongly recommend against using this for reasons of codec and security support. Don't use it; use external ffmpeg libraries instead.
Please check the release notes for details & known problems.
Download it from our download page.

2010-01-01:
Release
gxine 0.5.905 -
A new version of gxine is available. This release is mostly a maintenance release, but there are a few notable improvements: you can now double-click on the video to switch to full-screen mode, and a different pointer shape is used when over a SPU button (e.g. a DVD menu item). Oh, and hoppy you near, or something.

xine-ui in hg -
We're now using hg for xine-ui. This move has been (quietly) planned for some time; since xine-ui CVS hasn't seen any changes since February (apart from one build fix), the decision has been made, using One Man, One Vote, to implement this.

Upcoming features
VDPAU and BluRay -
For those of you who regularly taint your kernels, VDPAU support has been merged into xine-lib. It's still a bit experimental, so it's in a new (and temporary) 1.2 tree; it'll go into the main 1.2 tree in due course.
We've also got some basic BluRay support going into the next release. It won't play discs as yet (and that probably won't land in 1.1), but it should be able to handle decrypted files.

Going live… -
We've gone live with the new site! It's still a little bit unfinished, but most things are in place and working well.
A few things are different. This is a reimplementation of the site, done using XML and in a static form, rather than in PHP: no regeneration each time a page is served, so it's more cache-friendly; and fewer electrons are used. Remember, every electron saved…
There'll probably be some changes to the site over the coming months, in terms of style and possibly also layout. No promises, though :-)
